A FRUITING BODY

The inspiration came from sustainable food production. The rapidly growing interest in mushroom farming is a movement that questions what we eat and where it comes from. From large warehouses to mail-order kits, it is now possible for anyone to produce nutrient-rich, exotic mushrooms anywhere in the world. It makes emission-heavy produce and global shipping obsolete.

A Fruiting Body is an interpretation of a mushroom farm turned inside-out. The small room conventionally containing the mycelium blocks is instead contained by them. Here grows a plethora of mushrooms —

exotic to the Copenhagen climate — at different rates depending on the current weather. The LED lighting and plastic coverings which are commonplace at the farms have been fashioned into a zeppelin-like roof, acting both as a cover for the bar below as well as a beacon for people meeting up at the fair.
